In the shade of wooden slats

In the shade of wooden slats

Many myths are associated with wooden blinds - they have a short lifespan, they deform over time, change color, are poorly maintained ... However, the truth is that what applies to one type of wood may not apply to wood in general. The Bematech company has opted for an exotic wood, which gives its blinds a number of positive properties. We bet on an exotic wood, which gives its blinds a number of positive properties.

History of Sun protection

To produce sun protection from natural materials means to return to the roots of this industry. The first, wooden blinds with fixed slats, which could not be tilted, appeared in the south of Europe in the 16th century, their successors with adjustable slats were patented on the old continent in 1812. Even today, after more than two hundred years of market very wide range of materials, including synthetic ones, wooden blinds are still available, which indicates the demand for them. In the interior, they represent a relatively distinctive decorative element, which is their main added value compared to the more common aluminum ones, which are a rather inconspicuous part of the window.

Exotic willow

Each type of wood has its own specific properties, some of which can be further strengthened - or, conversely, the undesirable ones suppressed - by a suitable surface treatment. Some woods are more suitable for the production of furniture, from others floors are made, some types are more suitable for the interior, others do not mind less favorable outdoor conditions. The slats of Bematech blinds are made of high-quality exotic abachi wood, which comes from African willow.

This wood is soft - very malleable, light and has a smooth surface after processing. Because this tree grows in the same conditions all year round, the wood does not have annual rings, but it is characterized by an interesting hair drawing. In addition, it is not knotty or prone to cracking. When well dried, it does not twist in a humid environment because it does not tend to reabsorb moisture. Another advantage is its very low thermal conductivity, and therefore it is also used for the production of, for example, benches and supports for saunas. Thanks to this and other physical properties, wooden blinds can be an important part of the thermal protection of a room and have a positive effect on the feeling of so-called thermal comfort. The inner surface of the wooden blind does not copy the outdoor temperature extremes transmitted by the window and maintains the temperature close to the interior. The blinds in the retracted state thus contribute to the stabilization of the indoor temperature and lower energy consumption for heating or cooling in summer and winter.

Waterproof, non-flammable, natural and colorful

The Bematech offer includes more than a hundred types of slats in various colors and with various surface finishes. The slats can be treated with moisture-protecting agents, for example provided with a non-flammable coating or a UV-stabilized coating. The surface treatment thus ensures their high protection and at the same time facilitates their maintenance (dusting).

The slats can also be tuned to different color shades (you can choose from the RAL or NCS swatches), or they can even be wrapped in leather. The RAL color swatch is a worldwide standard for the scale of color shades, used mainly in industry, the purpose of which is repeatability - i.e. the possibility to achieve the same color shade every time. In contrast, NCS is a Scandinavian system based on natural color perception. So it is not just a set of numbered shades. The NCS system is based on six basic colors - white, black, yellow, red, blue and green. The blinds can thus be suitably matched to virtually any interior. In addition, they do not only have to serve as a shading element, but can also be used as a dividing element (for example, instead of a screen).

Extended collection

The Bematech company offers three collections of wooden horizontal blinds - Be One, Be Wood and Be Noble, which differ from each other mainly in surface finish. The Be One collection offers lacquered lamellas, Be Wood stained and Be Noble lamellas are treated so that their surface structure is softened or emphasized. Newly, these product lines are expanded by the subcategories Be Wood Light and Be Noble Light, which offer light shades of slats, and Be Wood Dark and Be Noble Dark, which include dark shades.

Blinds can be made in a maximum size of 420 × 350 cm (width × height). The width of the individual lamellae can be either 35, 50 or 70 millimeters, their thickness is 3.2 millimeters. The blinds can be operated manually or motorized, but for larger blinds, the manufacturer recommends motorized control.
